KPSGA – Safari Guide Qualifications
You can be sure that most of Kenya’s exclusive safari outfitters use guides who are qualified under the KPSGA scheme. Candidates who have trained under the Kenya Professional Safari Guides Ass. (KPSGA) have a broad knowledge of wildlife, conservation & tourism, flora and fauna. A great deal of attention is given to the ethics and standards relating to all aspects of tourism which includes conservation awareness and an understanding and respect for Kenya’s indigenous tribes people.
The Kenya Professional Safari Guides Association (KPSGA) is a professional organisation who awards gold silver and bronze guiding qualifications to experienced guides in Kenya. This professional examining body was set up in 1996 and has received continued support from the KWS (Kenyan Wildlife Service which is the official Government body overseeing the upkeep and protection of Kenya’s Game Parks and wilderness regions).
There are three levels of examination – Bronze, Silver and Gold. For guides to proceed to the next level, a period of three years must elapse in order to ensure that standards are maintained.
