Jacaranda Indian Ocean Beach Resort

An enormous 600 year old baobab tree, the sound of the waves lapping against the shore, and of course the endless white sandy beaches and gently swaying palm fronds, make a perfect setting for this lovely hotel.

The Indian Ocean Beach Resort is away from the madding crowd and provides a wonderful opportunity to chill and enjoy the excellent food and fresh sea breeze. The hotel is located 25 miles South of Mombasa on the popular Diani Beach. This charming hotel is in a quiet location right at the end of the beach away from the larger hotels and hustle and bustle of everyday life. The Swahili style architecture manages to recreate the feeling of bygone opulence and add a sense of magical history dating back to the Sultans of Zanzibar. It makes for a wonderfully romantic and exotic setting. It is an exclusive, luxury resort, built on the site of a 16th century mosque. The Kenyan coast was once ruled by the rich Sultans of Zanzibar, hence the Arab architecture. Several relics from the Sultans Palace have been used as décor within the main building including an antique chandelier found in the main reception which was given to the Sultan by British traders for landing rights.

Accommodation
The 100 or so deluxe “clubrooms” form the main part of the accommodation on offer at the Indian Ocean Beach Resort. They all have makuti (thatched) roofs, and are spread out throughout the site in comfortable one or two story units. Almost all the rooms are just a few steps away from the beach and because of their design, they feel both private and comfortable. The rooms are double or twin bedded and are beautifully decorated in typical Swahili style décor with local, hand-carved furnishings. Each room has its own verandah, en-suite bathroom with bath/shower and separate toilet. Other extras include a mini-bar, direct dial telephone, hair dryer and all rooms have both air-conditioning and a central ceiling fan for your comfort. There is 24 hour room service, morning tea/coffee and disabled rooms are available on request.

Restaurants & Bars

  • Spices – This is the main dining area at the Indian Ocean Beach Resort where a buffet breakfast lunch and dinner are served. It has good position all along the sea front side of the resort on the first floor, which gives it a wonderful vantage point to view the ocean and the beach below. It specialises in a rich assortment of Swahili food from the shores of the Indian Ocean
  • Bahari Cove – This open air, informal beach restaurant a short walk away from the main reception area of the hotel, features shellfish and seafood recipes. A snack lunch menu is also available.
  • Pool Bar – Drinks are served by friendly waiters throughout the day.
Facilities
In addition to the main pool, which is used by all the guests, there are several small plunge pools dotted around the site, which are fairly deep and several metres wide. This is great if you want a private dip close to your room with a loved one or they provide somewhere else for children to play, if you don’t want to leave them unattended by the main pool.
The Indian Ocean Beach Club is on a well-designed, spacious site which offers a peaceful haven for all its guests. It has a small selection of low key entertainment facilities (pool, darts etc), which fit in quietly with the relaxed atmosphere of the hotel, rather than overpower this beautiful setting.
