Ocean Sports

249177_640_480“A small, stylish and sociable beach hotel for free spirits and active families in search of Africa”.

The Ocean Sports Resort is on Watamu Beach, about 20 km south of Malindi. This is one of the area’s oldest hotels, which was recently renovated and upgraded. Enjoy a cocktail on the deck of the O.S. bar, explore the area’s wildlife, or learn a new water sport during your visit.

Local Tip

Head here at New Year if you like a party. It’s become quite a hub for the hip crowd so it’s not always to get into so go over early if you plan to go.

The resort’s rooms are in low buildings set in a garden. All of the rooms are air-conditioned, with twin or double beds and en-suite bathrooms. The rooms are simply furnished, with bright, clean colour schemes, small architectural accents, and mosquito nets. There are also family rooms. You can stay in a three-bedroom beach house with its own private kitchen and a verandah facing the beach. The main bedroom has an en-suite bathroom and the beach house sleeps up to eight people.

Restaurants & Bars
The Ocean Sports bar, founded in 1952 as a beach hut, is now an extensive bar and lounge, with the original boat serving as a bar. Kenyan beer and local cocktails are among the specialties, and the bar is known for its party nights. An attached deck restaurant serves fresh seafood and pizza from a wood burning oven, and an extensive breakfast menu in the mornings. The restaurant’s Sunday lunch is popular with locals. An extensive deck provides a place to relax and watch the beach. A campsite is also available; guests there have access to all of the hotel’s facilities.

The resort can assist you with a PADI accredited dive company (lessons are available for beginners as well). Deep sea fishing charters are available, or you can water ski, or take a sea kayak out on to Watamu bay. You can also stay on land and play tennis or squash. You can watch birds, forest wildlife, or snakes, or explore the 15th century Swahili ruins near Malindi. (Some excursions require additional fees.) Weddings, conferences, and tournaments are welcomed.
