Amboseli

Amboseli is one of our favourite places to visit in Kenya.

It has Kilimanjaro as a backdrop and it has a varied landscape with swampy areas and riverine forest, which contrast beautifully with the dry desert areas in the rest of the national park. About a third of the park is taken up by Lake Amboseli, but this tends to be dry for many months of the year.

Local Tip
If you are given the chance, do visit a manyatta (a local Maasai village) please do. If you go in the late afternoon or early evening, you may even see all the livestock being brought home to be kept safe in the centre of the village.

Wildlife
Here you should expect to see plenty of elephant, who are here in very large herds. These are some of the largest elephants seen in Africa and they make great photos in front of a backdrop of snow-capped Kilimanjaro and the dramatic lighting whether it be from dark scene of a tropical rainstorm, a colourful sunset or sunrise or just a clear blue African sky. You will also have a good chance of seeing hippos, crocodiles, and lion well as the other antelopes, birds and small mammals commonly seen elsewhere.
Eco Friendly Environment
In recent years, great efforts have been made to take a more environmentally friendly approach towards this picturesque game park. Eco friendly tourism has not alwaystaken a high priority, and poaching and abuse of the land and it’s inhabitants has been a major problem.
