Diani and Kisite Mpunguti Marine Park

IMG_6190-001This protected area houses an ecosystem spanning four small islands surrounded by coral-reef.

Landscape and terrain
One of the islands that makes up this small but important Marine Park is Kisite Island. It has low grass covering it while the other three Mpunguti Islands having equatorial forest. The coral reef in this area is covering in sea grasses and the marine algae is diverse supporting an impressive range of sea creatures. Dolphins can be seen and this whole area is great for snorkelling, diving and bird watching. The while sandy beaches are great for recreational activities.

Diani
Diani is located along a beautiful long white sandy beach that stretches for several miles on the south coast. Many large hotels attract a range of European visitors. Dive clubs, discos, dhow trips, dolphin tours etc. This beach is close to the Shimba Hills nature reserve where you can see elephants and other wild animals.

Directions: From Nairobi: 1 hour flight to Mombasa then drive to Diani via the Ukunda ferry. This journey takes around 1hr30mins – 2hours.. Alternatively, you can fly directly to Ukunda airport which is then about 15 minutes from Diani.
