The Mediterraneo Gigiri

9west_2-700x390The Mediterraneo Ristorante, Gigiri has to be one of Nairobi’s most popular restaurants among the well off ex-pat crowd – and justifiably so.

It’s almost an obligatory stop if you like authentic Italian cuisine. Located almost opposite the main United Nations entrance in Gigiri, it has a lovely garden full of Roman style sculptures. For a quiet romantic evening it can’t be beaten, due to it’s secluded corners and intimate nooks hidden among the larger spaces, suitable for bigger gatherings. It’s very often busy no matter what time of day, so booking is highly recommended particularly in the evenings and at weekends. Both Mediterraneo restaurants retain the same classic Italian feel and have an up-market and lively atmosphere!

One of the main reasons for the Mediterraneo’s enviable reputation, is the quality of food and wine, all served with typical Italian flair and elegance. The menu is varied with authentic Italian fare and continental cuisine, which include a great choice of pizza, pasta, antipasta, seafood, meat and vegetarian dishes. Many of the ingredients are from Italy and the flavours, tastes and aromas that waft around the restaurant are uniquely Italian. There is a children’s menu available and a good selection of dessert. The friendly staff and good food will ensure that the Mediterraneo is sure to be a very pleasant evening out.
The take away pizzas are reasonably priced and viewed my many as the best in town. There are two Mediterraneo Restaurants, both equally good depending on what you’re after. This is the newest restaurant. The older and larger, Mediteranneo Junction is found at the Junction Shopping Centre.
Occasionally on Tuesdays, the Mediterraneo has a live band playing which is a great way to make your evening even more romantic!
