Tamarind Mombasa

Perched on a cliff, overlooking the historic harbour of Mombasa, the Tamarind Restaurant is is said by many to be one of the finest seafood restaurants in Africa.

Built in Arab style, the elegant, gleaming white building has a wonderful setting with a starlit terrace that offers stunning views


In the early seventies, Kenyan born Chris Seex, set out to create the finest seafood restaurants in Africa. Almost single-handedly, he designed and built the Mombasa Tamarind, which has maintained its high standards and excellent reputation since those early days over 40 years ago.

  • The Tamarind menu includes a delicious blend of French, Asian and African cuisine. Primarily a seafood restaurant, the Tamarind prides itself on using nothing but the freshest ingredients. The Prawns Piri Piri, Chilli Crab and Lobster Tamarind have earned the Tamarind worldwide fame. It has been awarded several best coastal restaurant awards and it’s had rave reviews from many publications that include Gourmet, the Times of London and the Herald Tribune.

The Tamarind’s reputation has been built up through personal service, original presentation and superb attention to detail.
With a seating capacity of 160 people, the Tamarind currently has a staff of 120.

Local Tip
They have a really nice little shop within the compound. It sells unusual items including great beach-wear, jewellery and quality souvenirs.
