The Leo Collection

IMG_5063The Leo Collection features artwork by the wildlife painter Philip Galley and his son Alexander.

Their Studio and Gallery is in Langata, Nairobi, just a few minutes away from the David Sheldrick Elephant Orphanage. People may visit if they book beforehand and the studio has a range of original paintings, prints, greeting cards and framed lithographs for sale. Whether you have moved to Nairobi and need to fill an empty space or are a holiday maker looking for a memento to take home, this is a good place to visit.

  • Starting his Art careeer at Moseley School of Art in the UK, Philip went on to complete his formal training at Plymouth College of Art and Design where he studied fine art and lithography. After this, his career led him into the field of advertising which took him to both East and West Africa.
  • Surrounded by Kenya’s stunning game parks and frequent safaris into the African bush, his interest in wildlife intensified and this led to his impressionistic paintings of wildlife which he is famous for today. His paintings balance the mood and colours of the landscape with beautifully rendered images of his wildlife subjects. Philip pays close attention to detail and balances this within a loose refreshing style. His work is held in privatecollections in the UK, USA, Europe and Africa. Philip Galley has sold at Christies Auction House of London and is a member of the Fine Art Trade Guild and the Marwell Art Society.
  • Philip’s talent for painting has obviously been passed down as Alexander is following in his father’s footsteps. He works in all mediums – watercolour, pastel, acrylic and oil to produce wonderfully evocative paintings of the coast; white sandy beaches, palm trees and sunsets. Alex also specialises in stylised figure drawings in rich, red and orange hues; which capture the essence of Africa.
  • To meet the painters and see their work in the Leo Collection Studio and Gallery, prior bookings are recommended. The Gallery is located just ten to fifteen minutes from the Giraffe Centre, Karen Blixen Coffee Garden, The Elephant Orphanage and all the main tourist attractions in the Karen and Langata Area.
