Kisumu is found in Western Kenya close to the Ugandan border. It’s on Lake Victoria and is a port city and the third largest city in Kenya.
It’s the largest city in western Kenya and the second most important city after Kampala in the greater Lake Victoria. basin. It’s easily accessible by road, rail, car, bus, water and air.
Because of its Lakeside location, some of the resorts in this area are very beautiful and are well worth visiting. There are some National Parks in the area run and managed by the Kenya Wildlife Service. These include:
- Ndere Island National Park (an island off the northern shore of Lake Victoria)
- Kisumu Impala Sanctuary (A sanctuary located about 3km from Kisumu city)
- Ruma National Park (Previously known as Lambwe Valley Game Reserve) It’s 140 km from Kisumu on Lake Victoria near Homa Bay.
