The lush gardens, cascading water features, and tropical atmosphere of the Southern Sun gardens and grounds, has to make it one the nicest hotels in Nairobi!
Coy carp swim lazily in the many ponds dotted around the grounds. Jungle creepers overhang the many walkways, which echo with the cicadas and frogs, which sing loudly to entertain and enchant the hotel guests.
This historical hotel is a perfect place for guests to settle for a day or two before departing on a safari. The hotel dates back to the 1940’s and retains much of its charm and character from days gone by. The Southern Sun feels smaller and more intimate that it’s room numbers suggest. The service that guests can expect to receive is reliably personal, welcoming and friendly.
There are around 180 rooms in this hotel comprising 3 different types of accommodation: guest rooms, executive club level rooms and suites. All rooms contain cable/satellite TV, coffee & tea maker, mini bar and all are beautifully decorated with clean stylish en-suite bathrooms.

There are two restaurants /bars which offer informal dining and serves a selection of drinks:

This is a family friendly, ranch style restaurant which serves American style steaks and so on for lunch a dinner. It has an a la carte and buffet menu.
The hotel has a small gym with Jacuzzi, steam bath etc, Two very attractive (but sometimes rather chilly) swimming pools and It has a well patronized hairdressers and beauty salon where you can be pampered and well taken care. It has a small Internet café, business office and conference facilities to cater for business travelers. Just a minute away there is a casino with several more casinos in the locality, close by.
The Hotel is not found in the city centre itself but in a thriving suburb of Nairobi (Westlands), which is the hub for many Kenyan ex-patriots. It’s located close to the popular Sarit Centre Shopping Centre and trendy Westgate Shopping Centre, both of which are a few minutes away from the hotel. (see shopping, restaurants and nightlife for things to do in this lively area.) Closer still, is the Westlands Craft market, which is just a few hundred metres down the road. This small, cozy market is filled with traditional African arts, crafts and souvenirs. If you’re prepared to haggle hard, you will be sure to come away with bargains galore!
Westlands itself, is probably the best area in Nairobi to find trendy, cosmopolitan, restaurants, cafes, bars and casinos of which there are many.
The swimming pools look amazing; be warned, though, Nairobi is high altitude and the water can be pretty cold!
